Top finish

A top finish bet, also called a top finisher bet, is a bet on a selection finishing in the top N places of an event, such as Top 5, Top 10 or Top 20 in a golf tournament. Your pick doesn't need to win, only to finish inside that number of places, so the odds are shorter than the outright winner price. When players tie on the last paying position, a dead heat rule reduces the stake.
Worked example: £10 on a player to finish in the Top 10 at 3/1 (4.0). Finish 7th and the bet wins in full: £40 back. Finish tied 10th with two other players and three players share the one remaining place, so a third of the stake (£3.33) is settled at 4.0 for £13.33 back. A top finish bet is not the same as each way: each way is two bets, a win part and a place part paid at a fraction of the odds, while a top finish bet is a single bet at its own price.
